Crossover Ministries

At 19 years old, Shane Duke accepted a call into the ministry. By 22 he had married and was accepted as pastor at Crossroads Baptist Church in Grayson, Louisiana. During their time at Crossroads, the Dukes were involved in various aspects of ministry and missions including prison ministry, church planting and leadership training in several countries. As their involvement in world outreach continued, the Dukes began to feel a call to dedicate their lives to international missions.

In 1998 Shane and Marilyn Duke began Crossover Ministries, a non-profit organization committed to presenting the gospel by every means available to as many people as possible in every place of the earth so that souls will be saved, churches will be established, and believers will be strengthened in the faith of Jesus Christ. Although their present focus is primarily in Ukraine, Crossover Ministries has reached out to hundreds of pastors and mission points in New York, Jamaica, Mexico, Mongolia, India and the Philippines by providing educational and inspirational assistance.

Shane and Marilyn moved to Ukraine in 2005 to serve as full-time missionaries. They live in a village near Lugansk, on the eastern side of Ukraine. The primary focus of the Dukes’ ministry is church planting, though this is accomplished many different ways. Leading small groups, discipling new believers, and building up Ukrainian believers for church leadership are just a few of the things involved in their ministry.

Camp Friendship is a former Soviet campground outside the city of Lugansk. The campground is equipped with dorms, bath facilities, a cafeteria, large group meeting space, and recreational space. When Ukraine declared it’s independence in 1991, the campground came under the control of the state and was given to the local coal miners to oversee and keep up. For many years, children ages 5-16 have come to camp during the summer months and stayed at the campground.

The coal miners appointed Shane and Marilyn as directors of Camp Friendship in 2006. Under the Duke’s leadership, Camp Friendship hosts camps in the summer for children from local orphanages, villages, cities, and the mining community. The camps are two weeks long, and focus on sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ during small group times and evening worship services.

Servant Life has partnered with Crossover Ministries since 2006, sending teams to serve as camp staff at Camp Friendship. American teams lead Bible studies and times of recreation, and build friendships with the Ukrainian campers with the goal of sharing the love of Jesus Christ. With the changing political climate around Ukraine, the window of opportunity for American teams to share the gospel with Ukrainians may be limited. The time to go is now. Join us at Camp Friendship as we Help the World Know Christ through His Word!
